Tree Planting at A & R Way

As much as we love to work with quality wood and turn it into boats we also have a love of trees. We feel very strongly about the tiny amount of higher quality trees being planted and looked after compared to the  thousands of acres of Sitka spruce mono culture which surround us. So in the mid 1990s, on family ground on the Isle Of Mull several thousand oak trees were planted interspersed with other native species as the ground conditions dictate. They include Alder, Hazel, Birch, Scots pine, Hawthorn and Blackthorn.

In 2012 two hundred & fifty European Larches were added. Although perhaps not a site for prime quality timber growing, the hope is that this woodland will provide some quality timber to future generations and make up for the trees we have used in our work. Perhaps some will be used for boatbuilding. This growth is also, we hope, something of a carbon offset for our business activities. 

We actively manage and look after these woods ourselves.
